With the looming skilled workforce shortage, it’s more important than ever to be creative in reaching and engaging young people about the value of careers in construction. With that in mind, Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Trimmer Construction Education Foundation deployed new techniques during the National Craft Championships competition as part of its Builder Nation initiative, designed to promote the construction trades as viable, long-term careers with growth opportunities and competitive salaries.

To garner excitement, the National Craft Championships‘ (NCC) Facebook page was updated to feature stories about competitors’ paths in the industry and to hold a contest for people to vote on their favorite construction trade. In addition, Builder Nation trading cards were created for each competitor so 21st Century Workforce Development Conference attendees could collect and trade them for a chance to win prizes.
